Meet Our Brewmaster

Wes Osier

A native of North Mississippi, Wes first discovered and fell in love with German beer while he was stationed in Germany for his first duty assignment. Two and a half years and thousands of beers later, he moved back from Germany to the US where he started home brewing.

Since those days, Wes has honed his craft by working at five breweries: Abita Brewing, Coors Brewing, Terrapin Brewing, Sweetwater Brewing and Urban South Brewing Company.  He received his Master Brewer Certification through the World Brewing Academy in Chicago, Illinois and Munich, Germany.

Hampline Brewing Company follows Wes’ vision to bring new beer styles such as New England IPAs and mixed culture sours along with old world German, Belgian, and British styles to Memphis beer lovers. Part scientist, alchemist and perfectionist, Wes is meticulous with his brewing so you can just sit back, relax and enjoy the fruits of his labor.

Natch the Bear

Natch (short for Natchez, so we’ve heard) is the reason why the Memphis Zoo exists today. Memphian and businessman, A.B. Carruthers, was paid a debt with a black bear. That bear became the first animal in the Memphis Zoo. In 1904, Colonel Robert Galloway started raising funds to shelter the bear who (trigger warning) had been chained to a tree in Overton Park. Galloway used his own money supplemented by the Parks Commission to form the zoo in 1906 and house Natch along with several other abandoned wild animals. Memphis Zoo is now consistently named one of the top zoos in the country. Rest in Power, Natch.
